Multi-Speeder for the Commodore 1541 floppy disk drive I and II
My multi-speeder project for the Commodore 1541 floppy disk drive consists of an expansion board that is placed between the 6502 CPU. The board extends the working memory of the 1541 by 32 KB and provides 8x 64 KB banks for DOS operating systems on the 1541. The expansion board can be operated in the two versions 1541-I and 1541-II. I have also designed a version for the Oceanic OC-168 clone (on request). The original CBM-DOS 2.6, DolphinDos 2.0, SpeedDos 2.7 +, SpeedDos Expert, JiffyDOS and S-JiffyDOS, among others, can be operated switchably with the multi-speeder expansion board.
The addressing of the ROM and RAM areas varies, so the Multi-Speeder can be used for the different floppy speeders.
Not part of this project is a SpeedDos compatible parallel cable to the user port of the C64 and a ROM adapter socket for the Kernals in the C64. These can be obtained from well-known retro stores.
The photo shows the board in version v1.0. The current version v1.5 has the EPROM on the underside of the board so that it fits into the 1541-II.
