FAQ's

How does CNC machining and 3D printing affect the surface quality of products?

CNC machining typically provides a high surface quality with a smooth, fine surface texture. However, the surface quality of 3D printing is usually rough, and subsequent processing is required to achieve a better surface finish. However, with the development of 3D printing technology, some advanced 3D printing methods are also able to provide higher quality surfaces, but usually require additional processing steps.

How is the quality control of CNC machining and 3D printing in manufacturing?

Both CNC machining and 3D printing require quality control to ensure products meet specifications. In CNC machining, common quality control methods include dimensional inspection using precision measuring tools, surface quality assessment, and functional testing. For 3D printing, quality control includes checking printing parameters, material quality, and print quality, as well as conducting post-processing and testing.

How does PCBWay ensure high-quality manufacturing?

Equipment Maintenance and Calibration: Regular maintenance and calibration of machine tool equipment is fundamental to ensuring high-quality manufacturing. Maintain the accuracy and performance of equipment, including regular inspection and replacement of tools, checking the accuracy of sensors and measuring instruments, etc.

Appropriate process planning: formulate appropriate process planning, including reasonable cutting parameters, tool selection and machining path planning. Ensuring that each process is carefully planned and optimized to achieve the required precision and surface quality requirements.

Quality Control Measures: Establish strict quality control measures, including the use of advanced measuring instruments for dimensional inspection and surface quality assessment. Carry out process monitoring and statistical process control to discover and correct potential quality problems in time.

Material selection and inspection: Select high-quality raw materials that meet the requirements, and conduct incoming inspection to ensure their quality meets the specifications. Proper material selection is critical to the quality and performance of the final product.

Training and skills: Provide necessary training and skill improvement for operators to ensure that they have the correct processing knowledge and technical capabilities, and can accurately operate machine tools and implement process requirements.

Continuous improvement: regularly evaluate and analyze the production process, look for opportunities for improvement, and take appropriate measures to improve production efficiency and product quality. Drive continuous improvement with advanced technologies and tools, such as data analytics and automated systems.

What services can PCBWay provide you?

We offer rapid prototyping, small-scale and large-scale batch manufacturing with CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, injection molding, vacuum casting and etc. Our factories are ISO-9001 certified, instant online quotation and lead time from 3 days.

How to carry out the quality control of CNC machining in manufacturing?

Quality control in CNC machining during production manufacturing is crucial to ensure that products meet specifications and requirements. The process involves various steps, including design validation, material inspection, setting appropriate machining parameters, validating CNC programs, conducting first piece inspections, monitoring processes, performing periodic and final inspections, checking surface quality, and maintaining records for traceability. These methods collectively aim to guarantee dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and functionality of the final product. By implementing effective quality control measures, CNC machining ensures consistent and reliable results, meeting the highest standards of quality in various industries.

Why are there oil stains on the surface of black resin parts?

Resin parts are 3D printed using SLA technology. After printing is complete, remove the supports and sand them. After the product is polished, the surface turns a little white, and then we spray it with a layer of transparent protective oil.

The oil is non-toxic and harmless. After you receive it, you can wipe it clean with cotton cloth or wash it with water.

Why do 3D printing orders often have EQ regarding wall thickness?

The wall thickness directly determines the strength of the printed object, and also determines whether the model can be printed. Once the model is printed, it also goes through support removal, grinding and sandblasting, which determine the minimum wall thickness for different materials. The model is printable only when the wall thickness meets the minimum requirement.

image.png

However, many 3D printed designs do not meet the standard wall thickness requirements. At this time, there is a risk of damage or even failure in the printing.

Another question that everyone is more concerned about is why the wall thickness issue is not pointed out at the beginning of the order review?

The reason is that our 3D printing review is based on the automatic quotation of the pricing system, and the system cannot automatically identify some wall thickness issues.

Of course, we are also actively developing a more accurate quotation system to ensure the accuracy of quotations while ensuring their timeliness.

Anyway, we recommend choosing the following 2 options when placing an order.

image.png

*Customer knows about the thin walls designed do not meet the wall thickness standard, but needs to print as-is and take all risks.

*Customer knows about the threads designed do not meet the thread printing standard, but needs to print as-is and take all risks.

Why are the CNC or 3D printing parts I receive from different batches different?

This problem is common. Since most of our products are prototype, we cannot achieve consistent surface finishes just like batch production. For products without surface treatment, different equipment, different operators, different tools, etc. will lead to differences in the processed surface.

For products with surface treatment, due to the particularity and scarcity of the surface finish process, different batches of orders cannot be guaranteed to have the same finish. For example: Aluminum anodized color, there will be color difference more or less with each time, even though you choose the same opition of color.

If you need the totally same surface finish of batch products and samples, it is recommended to keep 1-2 samples at PCBWay, and then we can mass-produce the specified products according to the samples.
